I have thick, wavy hair with a fine texture. I have a feeling if your hair is course, or if it is very curly it might not work as well. With my hair texture, I have to seperate and pin back my hair into 10 - 12 sections on the top and straighten with a hair dryer on the bottom. It works well and takes about 30 min. If your hair is very curly, It may take longer, or you may have to section the bottom part of your hair as well.
